Nobody for President – A Followup

Trump Follows True to Form

Well, it’s been about 120 days since the election and about 70 days since the inauguration of President Trump. That’s enough time to consider where we’re going – if anywhere.
That’s part of the problem. We’re stagnating. Not going anywhere. Meanwhile, time flows on. Events happen here and around the world.

Unfortunately, despite our call for Nobody, either Clinton or Trump were to be elected.

Despite the major media predictions of a Clinton win, Trump won the election by having the most Electoral College votes, not the popular vote, which is in line with current US constitutional law.

Apparently many believe the popular vote should determine who becomes President. But that’s not the law. They seemed happy when the polls showed their candidate in the lead with the popular vote and the presumed Electoral College count.

We wonder what would have happened if Trump had also won the popular vote? I’m inclined to think we would see the same types of activity from the some of the discontented on the Left.

We are a nation of laws – or at least that’s what the law books say. But some people appear to think it’s okay to violate laws if you disagree with them.

Since the election, Trump, Clinton, Obama and others have given conciliatory speeches. But we are still a country so divided – maybe even worse so after election. We have to find some way to bridge the chasm.

Signs of ‘Not my President’ have been displayed at some of these post-election demonstrations.

Such signs were shown by a few whites following Obama’s election in 2008 and re-election in 2012, but were not accompanied by such large violent protests, riots, and mobs as we’ve seen recently. The only problem I’ve found from those years is that some apparently racist white students at the University of Mississippi burned Obama campaign signs.

If you are a US citizen, the President is legally your President, Stupid.

Maybe a sign something like ‘Not my preferred President’ would be more accurate? Or truthful.

Reports are that Clinton had a meltdown on learning she had lost.

But to Trump …

Our concerns about him seem to be holding true. He speaks and tweets from ignorance, a lack of knowledge, or whatever.

His risk-taking or impulsive behavior hasn’t changed.

His campaign promise to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) didn’t exactly work out as planned. His rush to get a flawed ‘Trump Care’ health care plan failed to pass.

We have yet to see what happens with tax reform. We suspect that Presidential ignorance along with incestual biases and economic interests – chiefly well financed lobbyists and their subservient Congress people – will result in little or no change for that as well.

Reports of his people having close contact with the Russians abound. That could be good or bad. Some of them have been reported as illegal. We don’t know the details of laws on that, so we can’t comment on that aspect.

We don’t generally see a problem in trying to work with the Russians. They are a major player in world politics and will have a lot of say in how world events proceed. We don’t particularly care for Putin, but he is doing what he thinks is best for Russia and Putin. We must deal with him realistically on the world stage.

One good thing. We haven’t heard any reports of Trump grabbing women’s crotches.
