What a universe we live in.

A famous playwright once wrote something like:
There are more things in the universe than you can imagine.

beautiful universe
So true.

What if you Googled “What are the components of the universe?”

You’ll find that the answers typically mention the material aspects: planets, stars, comets, dust, subatomic particles, galaxies, and so on.

Some mention space.
A few mention energy.
Few mention life.  Fewer still mention consciousness.

But all of these are components of the universe. We are a part of the life and consciousness component of the universe. Carl Sagan and others have expressed thoughts that we’re made of star stuff, thinking of our material aspects.  But we are more than that.

So what’s with the
Matter – Energy – Space?

The
Beauty – Violence – Mystery?

And with the “– and More“?       Let’s explore that.

Does the “and more” include time? Is time really a part of the universe? Or is it just a human concoction?

What else is there?

This site discusses and explores all these things – including the “and more” and the “what else”.

The term “universe” as used here encompasses all things – from the infinitesimal to the possibly infinite.

At a first glance, the universal basics appear to be energy, matter, and the space which they occupy. But there’s more ….

The earth and its contents are part of the universe.

Our understanding of the universe is based on our perceptions. Our perceptions generate what we call beauty, violence, mystery, and more.

The universe is an amazing, wondrous, and beautiful place.
Who hasn’t looked up at the night sky and seen the moon, planets, and stars. Many have seen the beautiful photos of galaxies and star formations from NASA and other organizations.

But the universe is also a violent place.
Thermonuclear reactions give us our sun and beautiful starlight. Stars explode. Planets, stars, galaxies, and other objects impact one another. Black holes are assumed to “swallow” large quantities of matter, including entire stars.

The universe is a mysterious place.
How did it get here?
Why do things operate as they do?
Who/What are we things who call our life forms human?

The earth is an amazing, wondrous, and beautiful place.
It provides our sustenance, has beautiful forests, oceans, mountains, sunsets, etc. Humans have built some beautiful structures as demonstrations of technical or artistic achievement. Humans can come together in wonderful ways to help each other.

But the earth is also a violent place.
There are natural disasters such as earthquakes, weather storms, volcanic eruptions, and tidal waves (tsunamis). And humans have their own violent processes – wars, major crimes against people, destruction of the environment, etc.

The earth is a mysterious place.
Though we appear to have learned something about the planet, we don’t fully understand a lot of the processes – seismic activity, the environment, the ocean depths. And we certainly don’t fully understand life and ourselves.

Exploring all these things can be fun, but it’s also a major challenge. So let’s go together and see where this takes us. Okay?
